The Underground Area is a location in NieR:Automata. The large subsection beneath the Abandoned Factory houses the Factory Machines that try to take out 2B and Pascal in their goal to "become as gods", and also contains several archives and weapons.
A special section of the underground area is shown while viewing Plato 1728's memories as part of the 3C3C1D119440927 DLC.
Location[]
The elevators that lead underground become accessible starting from Chapter 9. Fast travel to the area's access points temporarily become unavailable during Route C, as the signals are shown to be receiving interference from machines. The player will have to take them out to reestablish connection.

Notes[]
- Together is acquired during Route B, along with Project Gestalt Reports 1, 2, and 3 in the area's cyberspace.
- The power in the factory will be mostly cut off after 2B's escape. Subsequent trips during Route C will require heavy use of the flashlight while exploring.
- Revisiting the area as 9S is recommended, as most of the stashed collectibles are in locked chests.
- Taking Cruel Arrogance from its stand will cause the machines in the room to swarm 9S, although there are cases where they simply stare at him as he leaves.
Trivia[]
- The furnace is reminiscent of the same platform that Defense System Geppetto and P-33 are fought in at the Junk Heap.
