The Border Area is a location in NieR:Automata, and one of the first few encountered after the Prologue. The area serves as the site for several sidequests, and connects to the Sand Cave directly underneath, as well as the Pit Hollow, which is blocked off by a box until it is pushed off from the other side.

Location[]

The Border Area is located north of the City Ruins alongside the Shopping Center. Access to the larger desert area is blocked off until 2B and 9S are ordered to investigate the machine lifeforms there. Jackass will then proceed to blow up the barrier for them, allowing the two to pass.

Points of Interest[]

Desert Camp
Right at the entrance is a small Camp set up by the Resistance, which houses the area's lone access point. Jackass will pester the Supply Trader stationed here for a time, but will then quickly turn her attention towards the party instead.

Desert Maze
A number of entry points to the Sand Cave are scattered all over the area, with the largest of them all located to the right of the ruins further inside.

Desert Shortcut
The way to the Pit Hollow is initially blocked off from this side, until after 2B and 9S's first encounter with Adam. A2 can make use of this shortcut when gathering desert roses for Popola.

Resistance Disappearance
A peculiar machine drenched in a red substance can be found here during Resistance Disappearance.

Memory 1
Access to this Lunar Tear requires finding the correct path in the Sand Cave. Mysterious Lithograph 4 is in the locked chest near it.

Notes[]

  • Jackass will e-mail the party after some time, informing them of a fish she wants them to eat as part of one of her experiments. Agreeing to eat the fish leads to Ending K: aji wo [K]utta.
  • A moose will be made available at the Camp access point once the transport service has been installed in every other terminal.
