The Giant, also known as The Weapon,[1] was an extra-dimensional entity brought forth from the realm of Drakengard.[2]

Characteristics[]

Known as the queen-beast in Drakengard, The Giant was a massive being with the appearance of a white statue. On June 12, 2003 at approximately 3:00 PM, The Giant appeared alongside The Dragon through a portal over modern Shinjuku, Tokyo.[3][4][5][note 1]

The Dragon engaged The Giant in combat, and the latter was observed to emit sounds during the battle.[6] By 4:00 PM, The Giant was defeated and began to disintegrate over the city.[7]

Initial ground damage from falling pieces was comparatively minor, as the entity appeared to have little mass. Still, the event resulted in 56 dead, 320 injured, and damage of over 60 billion yen.[3] The destruction of The Giant also released unnatural "maso" particles that ultimately caused the spread of White Chlorination Syndrome.[8][6]

Trivia[]

  • The Giant's physical appearance is only seen in Drakengard, though it is mentioned in the Level 1 weapon story of Fool's Lament and in Grimoire Nier.[1][8]
  • The teleportation and subsequent battle involving The Giant and The Dragon appears in Ending E of Drakengard. This event causes the setting to branch off and become the NieR series.

Notes[]

  1. The Level 1 weapon story for Fool's Lament states that The Giant and The Dragon appeared on June 6. This is in conflict with both Grimoire Nier and Drag-on Dragoon: World Inside, which instead provide the date of June 12.
