Hina is an alternate version of Hina Akagi as seen in her EX Story. She is a member of the Hamelin Organization along with her younger brother, Yuzuki.
Story[]
In a divergent reality, both Hina and Yuzuki exist in the mainline NieR timeline. In 2020, the siblings are rescued as children from Legion by the Hamelin Organization in Tokyo.
By 2028, they are both soldiers working for the Hamelin Organization, where Hina in particular is well regarded as a captain. Her squad is tasked with assisting in the transport of a captured Legion by boat, but is subsequently attacked by Legion evolved to survive in water. Much of the crew is slaughtered, and the remaining survivors are ordered by Hina to escape while she stays behind to fight off the remaining monsters.
Hina successfully destroys the remaining Legion, where it is then revealed she suffers from a psychiatric disorder that causes her to find immense pleasure in dangerous, stressful situations.
The boat sinks, with her—and her secret—seemingly drowning in the depths.
Recollections of Dusk[]
- Note: the following is official story material from Hina's unreleased Recollections of Dusk in the NieR Reincarnation Official Material Collection, released only in Japan.
In 2030, Hina, who had survived the sinking of the boat, experiences a vision of her brother who had been killed by Legion two years earlier while on another mission for the Hamelin Organization, though she can make little sense of it. Before she can think more of it, flying Legion attack the helicopters she and her squadron are flying in. Hina and her subordinate, a silver-haired girl, dispatch of the Legion while suffering heavy casualties.
After returning from the mission, Hina witnesses a new weapon called an Extinguishment Field developed by the National Weapons Research Laboratory among many other tests being conducted on Legion. Through manipulation of Maso, this weapon could engulf Legion or other objects and seemingly send them away to other world. She receives a handheld weapon containing this power to remove armies of Legion led by Red Eyes on a massive scale, within a 4 kilometer radius of its activation.
At this time, a Red Eye hijacks the computers in the laboratory to send a message. It claims to be the master of all Legion, and it claims to offer peace. It wants to speak to the one it considers humanity's greatest warrior. The intensity of the Red Eye's voice proves overwhelming. All who hear it lose consciousness, but as Hina blacked out, she heard her name called by the Red Eye and thought only of how this would be the perfect chance to avenge Yuzuki's death.
The day of peace negotiation between humanity and Legion arrived, and the meeting place was determined to be a location known as the Holy City, a Legion fortress. The Hamelin Organization had set up a trap to surround and eradicate the Legion while Hina led her squadron, deemed the 13th Crusade, inside. The 13th Crusade's plan was to activate the Extinguishment Field in the presence of the Red Eye and flee while Hamelin artillery picked off any surviving Legion.
The 13th Crusade was greeted by groups of Legion, obedient to the Red Eye commanding them, who welcomed the 13th Crusade in without struggle. Upon entering a throne room, the Crusade came face to face with the Red Eye who communicated with them—none other than Yuzuki, who maintained his sense of self and sought revenge against humans for knowingly infecting him and his team with White Chlorination Syndrome, and also a chance to see his sister again. Yuzuki offered for Hina to join him in his conquest of revenge, but she remained conflicted and unsure of what to do.
As Hina stood frozen, her second in command attacked, signaling the beginning of the battle between humanity and Legion. Yuzuki commanded the Legion under his control to kill everyone except for Hina. Combat erupted while Hina stood in uncertainty. Hina's second in command wounded Yuzuki, severing his arm. Wanting to save both her brother and humanity, Hina's mind snapped, and she attacked both the Legion and her fellow 13th Crusade members until only Yuzuki and her second in command remained.
Hina allowed herself to be stabbed by her second in command, who reacted with shock. She ensured that the blade would not damage any vital organs as she was run through, though blood loss was overcoming her quickly. She lay with her dying brother on the floor and experienced memories of other versions of herself and Yuzuki who lived in a world that never experienced White Chlorination Syndrome, and who grew up as ordinary children before passing out.
Some time later, Hina awoke, unsure as to how she was still alive. She discovered that part of Yuzuki's Red Eye body, his heart, was placed into her chest. Not wanting to live in a world without her brother and hearing that the humans she betrayed were on the verge of winning the battle, Hina activated the Extinguishment Field to prevent Yuzuki's body from being taken.
The two traveled through space and time and appeared in another world with a red sky, where White Chlorination Syndrome originated, and where she knew no others would reach her. She intended to bury Yuzuki's body and then take her own life. Before she could do this, however, Yuzuki's body healed. His missing arm and heart regenerated, and he regained consciousness. Hina swore that as long as they both lived, she would do everything in her power to protect her brother.
In Hina's native world, her name was stricken from the record, and her second in command was celebrated as the commander of the victorious 13th Crusade. All that remained of the final Legion stronghold was a crater filled with countless Legion corpses and a large, bonelike sphere dubbed the White Cocoon.[2]
