The overall format of World Guide Volume 1 resembles a report of areas related to the 243rd Descent Operation, created by 9S. Chapters of most locations in-game are preceded by strings of messages ciphered in hexadecimal, which are provided below.
Interspersed with the report are brief descriptions of both major and minor characters, as well as a section featuring concept art of various machine lifeforms. Also includes the novellas Observation Diary of the Orbital Satellite Base, "the Bunker" and Cage of Memories, indexed at the start and end of the book respectively.
