"The Promised Gift" is a quest exclusive to NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., available during the second half of the game. Completing this quest grants additional dialogue from the Red-Bag Man regarding his marital life each time the ferry is used.
Activation[]
- Speak to the Red-Bag Man in his post at the ferry after acquiring the Stone Guardian key fragment from the Lost Shrine. The player will be notified of the quest by the tavern keeper in the Village, if entering the establishment.

- A man with a red bag stands at the docks, his head in his hands. After a fight with his wife, he is asked to procure a gift as a way of making amends. You have been asked to track down a red jewel at the strange-thing store in Facade.
- You obtained a red jewel at the strange-thing store in Facade. Deliver it to the bag couple's home in Seafront.
- It turns out the man's wife didn't want a jewel, but her husband's home cooking. You joined the couple for what turned out to be a joyous and memorable meal.

- Unique to this quest is the second of two internal monologues made by Nier, with the first set occurring at the library upon Kainé's release:
- I'm at a dining table filled with apple-based cuisine, red roses, and a single crimson stone. Illuminated by candlelight, the married couple fills the room with joyous laughter. The scene fills me with an unfamiliar sense of calm. Just a happy family gathered around the table. It feels so very... normal. I never thought I'd feel this way again. So I stuff my face with the great feast before me, hoping it helps to hide the tears welling in my eyes.
- Selecting the option "How they argue" yields the following exchange:
- Nier: All that comes to mind is how they argue all the time...
- Grimoire Weiss: I had the same thought, though it hardly seems a credible lead for a gift of atonement.
- Selecting the option "Her dark hair" yields the following exchange:
- Nier: Well, her hair was... um... sorta dark, right?
- Grimoire Weiss: Was it now? Regardless, I do not believe this to be a productive train of thought, lad.
